In Ballisager’s recruitment analysis from 2023, 97 % of companies respond that they do not use artificial intelligence for screening in the recruitment process - and the numbers are actually almost the same for large, small, public and private companies.
Companies are also reluctant to recommend job seekers to use AI to compose job applications. 78 % recommend it to a lesser extent or not at all.
45 %

27 %

Consulting firm Ballisager’s annual recruitment analysis examines Danish companies’ recruitment process and preferences. 1239 companies answered the questionnaire in 2023.
You can certainly use generative AI constructively to decode and understand a job posting or to get feedback on your job application. You just have to be critical of AI’s answers, and you cannot avoid having to do some work yourself.
It takes time to get something good out of AI - and in that time you might have done the work yourself.
Choose the right AI
There are many different tools with generative AI. When you choose, you should be aware of what it is designed for, and what conditions apply to its use. As an AAU student, you have access to Copilot Enterprise. Your data is secure, and your history is not saved and is not at risk of being used for other purposes. One of the advantages of Copilot is that it can give you a list of sources. This makes it easier for you to assess the quality and relevance of the answer.
Follow the 5 steps to a good prompt
The better input you give AI, the better output you can expect. Therefore, your prompt is crucial. You enlarge the chance of a usable answer when you write your prompts in English, give the AI a role, help it understand the context, set a goal for it, and specify the format for the answer. Find the guide to the good prompt and see an example.
Engage in dialogue with the AI
Avoid 'zero-shot prompting'. One simple question is most likely not going to give you a usable answer. Often it requires a "dialogue", in which you guide the system towards an answer that fits what you want to use it for.
Be critical
Always consider AI's answers with critical reflection. It is not an expert in all areas, but it is polite and will rarely say that it does not have the answer you are looking for. It can potentially generate an answer that seems credible, but which is not based on factual data. It is therefore important that you always critically relate to the AI model's output.
Be personal
AI's output is general, so you have to involve yourself and tell the company something about you and your profile when you are applying for a job. This is important e.g. if you use AI to write your cover letter. One should be able to feel your personality - and AI cannot handle that for you.
